EYE CARE: CARING FOR YOUR CONTACT LENSES

Eye hygiene is very important. Dirty contact lenses can cause serious eye infections so cleaning them properly is important. I remember visiting a friend who uses fashion contact lenses. She had them sterilizing in the case, but had the case opened and I could see dirt floating in the solution. I have even heard of people sharing contact lenses! Poor contact lens hygiene can put you at risk for developing corneal ulcers, corneal abrasions and other eye infections.

TIPS TO GETTING YOUR FITNESS GROOVE BACK!

Summer holidays are rounding up. The kids are resuming school, and you are probably also resuming your regular routine. It is usually difficult for most people to keep up with their regular routines when on holiday. For example if you normally visited the gym thrice a week, you may find yourself visiting once during holidays, or not at all. Depending on how long you have stayed off exercise, you may find it difficult getting back to exercising, or, you may discover upon your return that your fitness level has dropped significantly. This is perfectly normal as fitness cannot be stored. Exercise must be performed regularly to gain and maintain noticeable benefits. Once you stop exercising, the body begins to revert to its pre-trained state.

THREE HANDY HOME FITNESS EQUIPMENT TO OWN

Do you prefer to exercise at home, but, do not have space for a treadmill, or similar large gym equipment? Good news is, there are quite a number of small fitness equipment you can use at home and still get fantastic results. I have highlighted my three favorite home fitness tools.


Resistance Bands: Resistance bands are not commonly used. Many people tend to stick to dumbbells or machines. I bought one recently when I travelled because my dumbbells were too heavy to pack along. Resistance bands are more affordable and portable. They are a great way to workout when on the move or to add variety to your usual routine. You can do a number of exercises with the resistance band as it allows you to change your positioning in multiple ways. This changes how your body works and how an exercise feels. When buying a resistance band watch out for the tension level. Most bands would be marked small, medium or heavy. Exercises you could do with a resistance band include: chest press, bicep curls, triceps extensions, seated row, chest flies, etc.

HOW SHAKIRA GOT HER GROOVE BACK!

I usually shake my head when I hear people say “Zumba fitness” does not work. I did not create the program, but I can testify that it works. Before starting a career as a Zumba instructor, I stayed fit by taking weekly Zumba classes. I believe it is ignorant for anyone to talk down on a fitness programme. I, for example, hate Taebo, Kickboxing, or Steps, but that does not mean they don’t work. I just do not like them. I love dancing and anything that involves dance would naturally appeal to me. Do not make others hate a fitness program, just because it doesn't suit your personal style. Choose yours and let others choose theirs!

HEALTH BENEFITS OF WALKING – THE 10,000 STEPS CHALLENGE

Walking is a must for everyone whose legs are in good condition. You walk at home, in the office, etc. Research shows that an average person walks between 3,000 and 4,000 steps per day. Research also shows that walking 10,000 steps a day will significantly improve your health. Walking, unlike running or jogging, is a gentle form of exercise. This makes walking a good choice of exercise for anyone. It is free and can be done anywhere. I personally have seen the results of walking regularly. I was able to maintain my weight for a year by walking, I did no other form of exercise. I also improved my endurance levels.
