Group fitness classes are more popular than ever. There are various types of group fitness classes in the market, so much that making a choice on which class to attend is tougher. You will find low impact or high impact classes. Low impact classes means the intensity is lower while for high impact classes the intensity is higher (I would expand on this in another article). You may find some classes with a combination of both. What type of group fitness classes can you find today, there is yoga, Pilates, Zumba, kickboxing, step, Taebo, spin, sculpt, Dance aerobics, boot-camp and the list goes on. Whatever the case, I believe there are a few things to bear in mind when attending a group fitness class:

ARE ALL FATS BAD? -DIETARY FATS
I attended a wellness seminar some months back where a speaker was trying very hard to convince the audience that all fat was bad for the body. The title of her message was “oil is oil” and she was basically telling everyone to eliminate all forms of oils from their diet. Her speech was not very convincing as I have read many articles from experts recommending oils like olive oil, avocado oil, etc. Plus she had no evidence to back up her advise. I decided to research further. Is her statement true “oil is oil”? Should you eliminate all forms of oil from your diet?

NUTRITIONAL/HEALTH BENEFITS OF PLANTAINS
Plantains are widely eaten in West Africa. Plantains are similar to bananas but larger in size. While bananas are termed fruits, plantains are vegetables. Bananas are mostly eating raw, while plantains are usually cooked before consumption. Plantains can be eaten unripe, ripen or over-ripe. When unripe, plantains are usually green in colour, when ripen, they turn yellow. In Nigeria, for example, unripe plantains are usually used to cook plantain porridge, ripe plantains are mostly fried and used as a supplement to main dishes like rice and beans. Over-ripe plantains are used to make snacks like plantain fritters.

NIGERIA AT 53: FITNESS TRENDS SO FAR!
October 1 is usually welcomed with mixed feelings. For some Nigerians they spend the day discussing about all the trials and tribulations of the country, while some are happy because they get time off work/school, and for some others it is time to attend Independence Day Parry! (i.e.Party). On my way out today, I saw some people with their green and white themed outfits, probably going to attend some Independence Day event.
GYM GUIDE NIGERIA: PROFLEX WORLD CLASS GYM AND FITNESS CENTRE
Happy Independence Day Nigeria!!! Many may say there is not much to be happy about in the country, but, I disagree. Nigeria is a beautiful country, with beautiful people. For my independence day special, I would begin a new section of my blog termed "Gym Guide Nigeria". This section is to help anyone looking for a gym to subscribe to in Nigeria. I would focus mainly on Lagos, Nigeria, but would occasionally look at other States in the country. My first stop is a gym located on Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, Opposite the 1004 Housing Estate. It is called Proflex World Class Gym and Fitness Centre, popularly known as "Proflex".
