MY POST-NATAL FITNESS/WEIGHT LOSS STRUGGLES AND VICTORIES!

H ello Fitfam! It's been a while I blogged. I have been meaning to share a post-natal weight loss update with you. Getting myself to write these days is a major challenge. I do love writing however and should try to create time to write more . The picture collage below was done in February, the picture on the left was taken eight months post and the one on the right was six weeks post. I am currently more toned and trimmer, but that would be shared in another post. At six weeks post, when the picture on the right was taken, I had just been cleared by my doctor to resume exercising.

TIPS TO AVOIDING STRETCH MARKS IN PREGNANCY

S tretch marks are most times synonymous with pregnancy. Many women dread and suffer from stretch marks during pregnancy, some women have them on the stomach, breast, hips or back. During my antenatal classes, I heard all sorts of advice from not scratching my tummy when it itches to avoid stretch marks to applying certain oils on your tummy even before you get the good news of pregnancy! Sure there are loads of information on the internet on ways to prevent stretch marks, but I'm not here to repeat these. I'm only going to provide what worked for me as I did not get a single stretch mark during my just concluded pregnancy.

WHY YOU LOST WEIGHT FASTER WHEN YOU WEIGHED MORE

I f you are currently on a weight loss journey and suddenly realizing a drop in your weight loss numbers as you progress, this may just be the reason why! I was going through an Instagram user’s account recently and the person stated that they had lost 10kg-15kg in about six weeks. That’s an impressive number for me as it would take me much longer to lose that amount. Now if you are ignorant of the following facts, these figures may leave you feeling unaccomplished. Here is why that friend who weighs over 50kg more than you do seems to be losing weight faster than you, yet you are both on the same weight loss program!

HOW NOT TO GET OVERWEIGHT DURING PREGNANCY

W eight gain is inevitable for most women during pregnancy. You find many women gaining 10kg-20kg and over during this period. This aspect of pregnancy is probably the part that most women do not appreciate. Sadly, a lot of women find themselves not being able to shed off the weight gained post pregnancy. Aware of this fact, that weight gain is inevitable, I decided I was going to control my weight gain. My start weight pre-pregnancy was 60kg, by 39 weeks I was 79.4kg that’s just a little under 20kg gained during the period. After delivery, I weighed 75.4kg, and six weeks post-pregnancy, I weigh 71.2kg. This means I am left with 11.2kg to lose, which in my opinion is not bad. So far, I have lost 8.2kg with no exercise as I was awaiting my 6 weeks post-delivery doctor’s appointment before I resume. I have also eating very well as I am breastfeeding and must nourish myself, to the benefit of my baby.
